SUMMARY

Oversee Chemist and approve technical reports, making product design changes and other specifications. Insures continual improvement of product design. Requires hands-on work (blending and processing) with all reactive materials including explosives and other hazardous materials. In addition, will assist in the training of individuals through the auspices of the Safety Manager in the safe handling of explosives and hazardous materials.



RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take on assigned projects from inception to completion.



  • Develop, test, and validate processes to create desired products, focused on quality and regulatory compliance.



  • Scale production processes from prototype to full manufacturing capacity.



  • Oversee and actively participate in the handling, mixing, formulation, synthesis and supply of explosives utilized by the company.



  • Provide training or aid in the training of personnel through the auspices of the Safety Manager, all employees who would come in contact with or are impacted by the use of explosives, hazardous materials and or chemicals.



  • Ensure the maintenance of up-to-date mix records including Blend Sheets, Synthesis Sheets and PY Reports.



  • Keep and maintain explosive inventories and records including any required BATFE logs, inventories and additional shipping and processing documents.



  • Act in concert with the Shipping Department to supply and verify information needed to meet all regulatory requirements needed for the shipment of manufactured product.



  • Generate the needed documentation as that documentation pertains to the support of any operations that involve Explosives, Hazardous Materials and Chemicals.



  • Assist in the design process of products, especially in the area of reactive materials.



  • Ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of the explosive magazines.



  • Manage the removal, restocking, and or proper disposal of explosives in the explosive magazines.



  • Follows procedures as defined by policies, procedures, and ISO9001: 2000 requirements. Maintains confidentiality of all information processed.



  • Performs related duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance is required

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
Bachelor s degree in a science related field that allows for a strong knowledge of chemistry and a minimum 10 years of hands-on experience with Primary and High Explosives and Pyrotechnic Mixtures such as lead azide and lead styphnate. Strong chemistry knowledge, mathematic skills and working knowledge of the metric system. Must be able to pass an ATF Responsible Party Background check. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred:
Master s degree in chemistry or chemical engineering, prior experience in field of chemical mixing and pyrotechnics
